Free in Philly! / Life in the City

Memorial Day 2012

I’m sitting here texting my mother as she is in our nation’s capital tonight and wondering what type of veteran memorials will be happening in Philly tomorrow. I knew that this weekend was big for beach-goers, but Philly had some big events as well.

Opening weekend at the Barnes Foundation

The long awaited Barnes Foundation on the Ben Franklin Parkway has been celebrating its opening weekend since Friday with free admission events outside the museum. Tomorrow will be the final day for free events.Click here for more info.

Liberty 360 at the PECO Theater

The PECO Theater on 6th and Chestnut has been showing a 3-D Liberty 360 show all about the founding of the country. Tomorrow again is the final showing. Cost is free.

The Liberty Museum

The Liberty Museum was also offering free admission for the weekend to those who bring non-perishable food items, clothing, or hygiene items for the city’s homeless.

Hang Free Philadelphia

Hang free in Fairmount Park has returned after a 17 year hiatus. DJs will be all over the park spinning music of all kinds and visitors are welcome to picnic and enjoy Frisbee or soccer. This sounds like a great chance to connect with friends and chill before the start of another work week.

Franklin Square

Franklin Square is my favorite park in Philly.  This weekend you can enjoy the carousel,  minigolf, and Square Burger.

I’m thinking my crew will visit The Barnes in the morning and then take a trip to Franklin Square. This way both adult and child enjoyment can be had.

Time for bed now, busy day tomorrow.
